I received a truly satisfying email from one of my Ink-U-Bator MasterMind members just the other day. In all fairness, Kelly Thomas has worked with me before – in the riginal E-publishing Business System mastermind I conducted a few years ago. He achieved “Hemingway” status by completing the system and putting it into action.

It seems it stuck with him!

Ink-U-Bator MasterMind member Kelly Thomas is a computer technician, photographer, and also an accomplished info-preneur, running a successful online real estate listing service in his area for several years.

Kelly has now joined the new Ink-U-Bator MasterMind Forum. He’s a photographer who’s also an accomplished info-preneur, running a successful online real estate listing service in his area for several years.

Past Blog Posts Provide Fodder for Fiction

perdida

by Uncle Alan

Whether you use your own blog, or post to Facebook, Twitter or some other social media platform, many of us communicate regularly online. I’ve pointed out before you can take these posts, gather them up, and easily put together a book. Twenty-six year old author, Shawn Michael Severud’s done just that. Severud has just released perdida: essays to be read while intoxicated, a collection of Jack Keroujac-esque essays the author admits are collected directly from his own blog posts on a broad variety of subjects, exactly as they were originally posted: devoid of capitalization of any words.

Forum Power

by “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold

Launching a forum is great way to kick some life into any Website or blog. It doesn’t matter what niche you’re in or what you sell — or if you sell at all – a forum will allow your audience to interact with one another in a way your blog simply can’t.

Your audience is seeking a community. Even if your entire goal is publishing free advertiser-supported information, the key to all marketing, moving forward, is creating a community around your product, service or free online publication. It simply doesn’t matter. If you want to build your audience, I suggest you provide them a forum.

It took me a long time to realize this aspect of social publishing. I came . . . → Read More: Forum Power

Reviews Reviewed

scamwarning

by “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold

Far too many courses and e-books tell you to sell products or services by simply writing reviews, or by putting up quick YouTube videos raving about the product. Or,  they advise you to set up a site full of reviews slamming virtually everything…except for the only programs you’ve found that actually work.”

That last sentence is in quotes for obvious reasons. These don’t imply you actually have to try the programs you’re selling or even know anything about them … not even to review them. Many even offer you software capable of churning out dozens and dozens of reviews or entire review Websites at the push of a button.

Here’s a couple of examples to consider:

A Kernel Of Truth…

Frank's a master at branding...

by “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold

Frankly,  a lot of Internet marketing beginners I know are too easily struck by what I call Kernalism. This is often first evidenced by a foggy look in the eyes,  followed closely by all sense of reason going out the window. It happens the first time they stumble onto Frank Kern’s brilliant online marketing.

It’s not surprising – nor is it accidental.

Frank Kern is a master of creating and selling information products – mostly about how to create and sell  information products. He definitely knows how it’s done and it makes perfect sense…for him.

Frank's a master at branding…

But,  Frank’s a total genius at online branding. He utilizes videos like few  marketers I’ve seen. He reveals much . . . → Read More: A Kernel Of Truth…

On A Totally Different Note…But Not Really

alansmall

by “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold

So. It’s been a while.

Again.

I’ve looked into why I’ve been away so long and I realized…it was the book. That and perhaps 2,329 other things. But mostly the book. I had to churn out another worthwhile chunk before I could post, because I’d said I was going to write the book before your eyes. This seemed like such a great idea at the time — but it simply wasn’t happening. Not the way I wanted it to.

So — forget Time Bombs for now.

Well…don’t forget it completely.  Just tuck it back somewhere in your brain, in that special hidey-place in your head where, sometimes, sort-of-funny often-intriguing stuff pops up unexpectedly.

We’ll definitely get back to Time Bombs . . . → Read More: On A Totally Different Note…But Not Really

Creating “Social Salsa” With Your Brand

mofosalsa

It’s remarkable to me that so few people spend any quality time naming a business. This explains the vast majority of local companies you can find everywhere, sporting such memorable monikers as:

Robert Blauson, Financial Advisor Paula’s Hair Salon Blythe and Sons

The company names above aren’t real. They are, sadly, identical to the vast majority of real business names you and I are exposed to every day.

No offense to anyone operating a business under a similarly un-gnarly nomenclature. You might have to stick with it if you’ve already had it for a while. It’s best to avoid the usually-messy process of changing your name. FedEx and Embarq did it, but their name changes were costly beyond what any small business could afford.

– Social Media Agency White Paper Says Users Reluctant to Engage Within Multiple Networks –

by Uncle Alan

I’m pretty sure the world’s heard the term “too big to fail” far too much the past two or three years. Still, a white paper recently released by social media agency Punch Communications might indicate another “too big to fail” situation I hadn’t thought of before.

The free white paper provides some interesting reading for anyone entertaining the possibility of building any kind of specialized social network in the future.

According to the paper, the dominance of Facebook across the social media world is proof of the reluctance of many social networkers to subscribe to multiple networks. This has forced a lot of companies hoping to build . . . → Read More: Is Facebook Too Big To Beat?

A New Year!

calendar copy

by Uncle Alan

It’s 2011. 2010 is finally behind us. It was another tough year for many, following a couple of even rougher years ahead of it.

For myself, the end of 2010 held so many positive ramifications that it took a couple of weeks to fully settle in – thus the delayed nature of this post and my long absence posting here.

Don't keep making resolutions you're just going to break — make a concise list of INTENTIONS and roll with them!

Here at the Portal, I took a lot of December off from posting to deal with a lot of issues (including launching an entirely new business), and playing catch-up on some major projects I’d fallen too far behind on through the . . . → Read More: A New Year!

Wikki Wonka and the Treason Factory

WikkiWonka

by Uncle Alan

A lot of people have asked me what I think about the whole WikiLeaks flap. You know – the Website that’s pouring out sensitive government information left and right.

Since I’ve pretty much made online publishing my life and WikiLeaks is a very loud example of stretching the limits of freedom of the press, it stands to reason I might have an opinion.

First, the patriot in me wonders how what WikiLeaks is doing is any different than what any foreign spy would be found guilty of treason for doing. The one major difference is that WikiLeaks is releasing sensitive secret information to the entire world – not just tattling to a single enemy willing to pay the most money.
