I Am NOT Anonymous!

It appears Congress has been educated. The recent outpouring of protest against the proposed tight-fisted SOPA and PIPA bills has led to the evaporation of virtually all support for both pieces of legislation. Even co-signers pulled back, finding the law unsupportable in its current form.

The recent outpouring of protest against the proposed tight-fisted SOPA and PIPA bills has led to the evaporation of virtually all support for both pieces of legislation.

Forget the outrageous reality that any member of Congress would co-sponsor a bill before thoroughly reading and understanding it. That’s a battle for another day. Just make note of every “co-sponsor” of either of these bills — whether they ultimately withdrew their support or not. Realize they obviously sponsored . . . → Read More: I Am NOT Anonymous!

The Day SEO Tricks Died — AGAIN

tombstone

by Uncle Alan

I’ve long held that real SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is all about quality. Quality information real people want to read, not information created around an intentional set of keywords that honestly match what real people would enter to find what you’ve put together for them. Genuine back links from other real sites who like what you publish and want to tell their visitors about you or feature what your work.

Not a bunch of fake Websites pointing at your site.

Now Google has once again swept all the attempts to manufacture rankings under the rug, changing their search ranking algorithm completely – again.

Sadly, they did it for all the wrong reasons, but the effect is the same.

What Google’s done is . . . → Read More: The Day SEO Tricks Died — AGAIN

SOPA Dopa

A "soap-on-a-rope" approach to something as important as freedom of the Internet is not the answer.

by Uncle Alan

You might have heard about SOPA — The Stop Online Piracy Act. It’s a controversial bill proposed and backed by major content creators, designed to make it easier for them to protect their copyrighted works from being stolen by rogue file sharing sites that facilitate infringement.

There shouldn’t be any controversy at all. While it might sound noble, the bill is idiotic, an over-reaction designed to put ultimate power in the hands of mega-corporations who can easily abuse the law to stop everything from content sharing services to competitors for eyeballs they’d like to wipe out, furthering their own monopolistic maneuverings.

That Congress would even consider this travesty is yet another sign of who’s really running things in Washington these days – . . . → Read More: SOPA Dopa

Ten Truths You MUST Know

I hope this report opens your eyes and puts you on the right path to success.

by Uncle Alan

I don’t think I’m the only person on earth who feels like the “Internet marketing” industry has hit the crapper.

Don’t get me wrong. Internet marketing is the bomb. It’s the most effective way to reach the largest audience of potential buyers there is. If you know what you’re doing, you can launch or build any business or sell anything you might want online.

Sadly, the industry has been heading into the tubes for quite a while now and no one seems willing to talk about the real reasons why – or what can be done to avoid falling over the edge with it.

I hope this report opens your eyes and puts you on the right path to success.

Email-Fail – The Subject Is A Lie

by “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold

I promised more fun, then I got serious in my most recent posts. Go figure! We’ll return with part three of my “Stop Buying Bullshit and Get Cranking” series in a bit.

First…

My “in” box brought me something fun today! I thought I’d share it with you. It seems like a great way to start a weekend, to me.

This is an email that’s a complete marketing fail – and a perfect example not to follow. You do know it’s just as important to know what not to do as it is to know what to do? This is a definite not!

The subject line started things off on the wrong foot:

“Subject: Alan [INVOICE #265] PAYMENT OWED: $2,995″

Stop Buying Bullshit!

– Break Free of the “Internet Marketing Rip-Off Machine” NOW! –

by “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold

If you listen to 90% of the Internet marketing “gurus” online today, you’d think Google makes destroying small innovative businesses their priority. As I read their sales letters, watch their videos or listen to their teleseminars, I can almost feel the specter of the almighty Google beast hovering over me, giant pillow in its huge green hands, ready to smother any sign of marketing genius I might exhibit before it’s had a chance to breathe its first breath.

You can almost feel the specter of the almighty Google beast hovering over you, giant pillow in its huge green hands.

They’re lying. They want to frighten you and lying . . . → Read More: Stop Buying Bullshit!

A Senate Threat to Internet Neutrality?

GOBBLING-460_1013123c

by “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold

The U.S. Senate rejected the Jobs Bill yesterday. What’s new? It’s what Congress seems to be doing best lately: stopping or stalling any action that could move the U.S. economy forward.

Unless (it seems) it’s legislation that benefits the major corporate aristocracy.

The FCC, already weakened to the point of ineffectiveness, is about to be weakened more.

I’ve heard recently, for example, that Republicans in the Senate now plan to introduce legislation designed to destroy the semblance of watered-down Net Neutrality we’ve all enjoyed online since the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted rules designed to protect the Internet, beginning in 2005.

According to reports, this new bill would strip the Federal Communications Commission of its ability to enforce its . . . → Read More: A Senate Threat to Internet Neutrality?

Far too many courses and e-books tell you to sell products or services by simply writing reviews, or by putting up quick YouTube videos raving about the product. Or,  they advise you to set up a site full of reviews slamming virtually everything…except for the only programs you’ve found that actually work.”

That last sentence is in quotes for obvious reasons. These don’t imply you actually have to try the programs you’re selling or even know anything about them … not even to review them. Many even offer you software capable of churning out dozens and dozens of reviews or entire review Websites at the push of a button.

Here’s a couple of examples to consider:

Fishing With Uncle Alan

fishing catch

by  “Uncle”  Alan R. Bechtold

You’ve probably heard this before:  “Marketing is a lot like fishing.”

It’s true,  to a degree.  You do have to target your market  …  like finding a good  “fishing hole.”  You have to write your copy with the right angle to appeal to them,  like when you “angle” for fish.  And you have to create the right offer in the first place  –  preparing the  “bait.”

There’s more,  but I’m sure you get the point.

Unfortunately,  far too many people who repeat this axiom also think of their customers and prospects as little more than trophies on a stringer.  Far too many more hear this and take it literally.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this approach lead to a . . . → Read More: Fishing With Uncle Alan

On A Totally Different Note…But Not Really

alansmall

by “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold

So. It’s been a while.

Again.

I’ve looked into why I’ve been away so long and I realized…it was the book. That and perhaps 2,329 other things. But mostly the book. I had to churn out another worthwhile chunk before I could post, because I’d said I was going to write the book before your eyes. This seemed like such a great idea at the time — but it simply wasn’t happening. Not the way I wanted it to.

So — forget Time Bombs for now.

Well…don’t forget it completely.  Just tuck it back somewhere in your brain, in that special hidey-place in your head where, sometimes, sort-of-funny often-intriguing stuff pops up unexpectedly.

We’ll definitely get back to Time Bombs . . . → Read More: On A Totally Different Note…But Not Really
