Here’s a perfect example of the “Internet Marketing” biz-op mentality taking its toll as it makes things worse for everyone.
I love Amazon’s Kindle. You can debate all day the differences between Amazon’s technology and Barnes & Noble’s Nook. The bottom line is that Amazon’s Kindle holds by far the largest market share of the two. And Amazon’s online self-publishing system, now tied their Kindle, is what I truly love. It makes it easy for any author of any book to upload their work and make it available to the huge audience of Kindle owners at no cost.
Amazon pays you a commission for every copy it sells for you, at the price you set.
It’s a game-changer, when it comes to independent publishing. . . . → Read More: Amazon Kindle Spam: Many Hurt By Avalanche

Rumors have been spreading like wildfire ever since “Uncle” Alan R. Bechtold, publisher of Uncle Alan’s Info-Publishing and Marketing Portal, released the first chapter of his new book, “Time Bombs,” on the Portal. Most of the speculation seems to center around the publisher/author’s whereabouts since that first chapter appeared.
Bechtold warned his readers the book would be explosive. But, even though the opening chapter is all that’s been revealed so far, a firestorm of buzz has already ensued.
The fact that Bechtold hasn’t been seen anywhere around the Portal since he released the first chapter of “Time Bombs” hasn’t helped the situation, but rumors now flowing all over are generally agreed to be taking things a bit far.

CHAPTER ONE — Cold Hard Reality
by Uncle Alan
It was a bright, cold January Kansas day, the kind that made me eager to dash to the warmth of my office, in spite of the short distance from my car to the door. I’d lived in in Topeka all my life, but my tolerance for piercing cold Midwest winters had reached an all-time low for me.
Usually, I’d just duck my head to block the wind and quickly sprint the short distance. That day, I had to count to three … twice … before I was able to make myself pull on the door handle, finally allowing the wind to whip the cozy warmth surrounding me in the car away from me and into the . . . → Read More: Time Bombs — CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION
This is my first book since Will Work For Fun – 3 Simple Steps To Turning Any Hobby Or Interest Into Cash was released, in 2008. It’s been a long time coming, but I had to be in the “right place,” mentally, before I could start putting down the words.
The entire book is an experiment. I’ll be publishing each chapter, in sections, here on my Information Publishing and Marketing Portal.
I’m going to be writing much of the book as you’re reading it … so you’ll actually get to watch it grow as it unfurls before you in the Portal. And — because it’s appearing on a blog . . . → Read More: “Time Bombs” — Introduction

I’ve always said you should never lose sleep worrying about the theft of your copyrighted digital information. People are always going to steal anything that’s as easy to pass along as digital content.
When you publish online, you might as well accept the facts: the Web’s basically an honor system. You’re only going to get paid by people who are honest and believe in paying to receive value in return.
Stop pouring money down the drain you could just as easily capture with these techniques.
Most copyright protections I’ve seen for online content tend to complicate the user experience beyond an acceptable level in return for almost no protection from anyone willing to spend some time hacking the system you’re using.

I think another Media Court case is long overdue, don’t you?
I’ve got one here that I’ve been sitting on during the holiday break. It’s time to bring it forward.
The email came from reknowned marketing expert Anik Singal.
Some time in late December of 2010, I received the following email from Anik Singal. Anik’s a sharp marketer. He’s responsible for developing some of the most powerful affiliate marketing training on the planet and he’s been hugely successful.
I know the guy personally and like him.
Naturally, I opened up the e-mail. It read:

It’s 2011. 2010 is finally behind us. It was another tough year for many, following a couple of even rougher years ahead of it.
For myself, the end of 2010 held so many positive ramifications that it took a couple of weeks to fully settle in – thus the delayed nature of this post and my long absence posting here.
Don't keep making resolutions you're just going to break — make a concise list of INTENTIONS and roll with them!
Here at the Portal, I took a lot of December off from posting to deal with a lot of issues (including launching an entirely new business), and playing catch-up on some major projects I’d fallen too far behind on through the . . . → Read More: A New Year!

We’re wrapping up Thanksgiving here in the U.S. It’s a great tradition, a nice break in the hectic pace of things — a time to reflect and be happy for what we have, rather than constantly striving for more.
It would be good if more of us assumed this attitude more often than once a year. It’d be even better if it was the attitude of gratitude itself that was purely celebrated, and the whole world could be included in this celebration.
If you’re reading this, I’m grateful you’re here.
Fortunately, you don’t have to live in the U.S. to celebrate Thanksgiving, especially when you celebrate your gratitude every day, the way David Preston does. I describe David’s method in this . . . → Read More: On Thanksgiving…

I watch the Alexa rankings on the Portal pretty closely. I don’t get anal about it, but I do check the rankings day-to-day. It’s been a learning experience.
Lately, I’ve been fascinated watching the effect that frequency of posting alone has on the Portal’s Alexa ranking.
Before blogs, of course, I was entrenched heavily in email marketing. With email marketing, if you pack enough valuable content into your emails and only occasionally sprinkle offers to buy in at the right moments, your list builds because drop-offs are lower. Send too few and the response drops off when you do send something. Send too often and people start dropping out like mad as well.
I usually felt this worked best with a minimum . . . → Read More: How Often Should Bloggers Post?

Writing a book can provide you with the basis for an entire business. I prefer self-publishing because the profits on the book itself can be significantly higher than going through a “traditional” publisher like Harper Collins or John Wiley and Sons.
A traditional publisher can get you into more bookstores, for a significant price.
If you can get a contract with a major traditional publisher, be my guest. With the right advance, a lot of luck and even more work on your own end promoting it (publishers do a few routine things to promote your book but honestly, one of the things they look for is authors who will also promote their own books and help them sell more), you can . . . → Read More: Blog Your Book
